Mainline - West to East

Special Instructions
Speed of trains – All trains must run at reduced sped whenever regulations or safety require. All trains must reduce speed around sharp curves.

Speed on mainline between Fargo and Minneapolis is 60 MPH.

Speed on passing track at Fargo is 10 MPH.

Speed on all mainline turnouts lined for a diverging route is 10 MPH.

Work Equipment Handled in Trains – Speed of trains handling the following equipment must not exceed 25 MPH:
Pile Driver
American ditcher
Jordon spreader
Scale test car
Wrecking crane
Locomotive crane

Trains will not exceed 10 MPH when traveling through Minneapolis yard.

OS points – Following are OS locations. Crews must OS to the Burlington Dispatcher by means of radio or wayside phone.

Speed on mainline between St, Paul to Highpoint is 50 MPH.
Speed on and off train lift is 10 MPH
Speed around Wilson’s Bend is 30 MPH
Speed from Wilson’s Bend to Aurora Tower is 50 MPH
Speed from Aurora into Chicago is 15 MPH
Speed through the Austin Ave. crossovers is 10 MPH

Speed on all mainline turnouts lined for a diverging route is 10 MPH.

Steam Engine movements are restricted to 30 MPH.

Speed through any part of the main line from Rochelle Staging to Three Points is 25 MPH.

Switch crews may briefly enter the Belt Railroad’s mainline on the east end of the yard without permission from Aurora Tower but must yield to any inbound or outbound trains.

Outbound westward trains must receive permission from Aurora Tower before leaving Cicero Yard.

Outbound eastward trains must receive permission from West Pullman Tower before leaving Cicero Yard.

Aurora Tower’s track authority begins for all westward points within Chicago yard limits and ends at West Aurora.

From the east end of the Austin Ave Crossover to the home signal at West Pullman Tower:

59th Street (59th Street Yard)
Englewood Avenue (WP Tower)

Speed of trains – All trains must run at reduced sped whenever regulations or safety require. All trains must reduce speed around sharp curves.

Speed on mainline between Austin Avenue and WP Tower is Restricted Speed. (Not to exceed 15 MPH).

Speed on all mainline turnouts lined for a diverging route is 10 MPH.

Brighton Park Interlocker Instructions:
All trains east bound and west bound on the BROC mainline must stop at the red signal. Crews may flag their way through the interlocker by pausing 20 seconds and then, if there is no opposing traffic, may proceed.

Movement through WP Tower Interlocker will be by signal indication.

The Belt Railroad’s transfer job may enter the mainline without permission from either tower – Aurora or West Pullman – however, the job must yield to any inbound or outbound trains.

Outbound trains must receive permission from either Aurora Tower (westbound) or West Pullman Tower (eastbound) before leaving East and West Clearing Yard.

Speed of trains – All trains must run at reduced sped whenever regulations or safety require. All trains must reduce speed around sharp curves.

Speed on mainline between WP Tower and Upper Sandusky is 50 MPH.
Speed on mainline between Upper Sandusky and Bridge is 40 MPH.
Speed on Allegheny River bridge is 30 MPH.
Speed from Allegheny River bridge to Gallitzin is 30 MPH.

Speed on all mainline turnouts lined for a diverging route is 10 MPH.

Speed in all yards will not exceed 10 MPH.

Work Equipment Handled in Trains – Speed of trains handling the following equipment must not exceed 25 MPH:

At Brighton Park no cars over 40 feet long are allowed past the warning sign located approximately 350 feet west of the BROC diamond.

Outbound eastward trains must receive permission from West Pullman Tower before leaving 59th Street Yard.

Outbound westward trains must receive permission from Aurora Tower before leaving 59th Street Yard.

West Pullman Tower’s track authority begins for all eastward points within Chicago yard limits and ends at the eastbound home signal at Hobart, Indiana.

Trains will run on the right-hand main line in double track territory unless given permission by the Pennsylvania Dispatcher to run wrong main.
