Bulletin #51

Bulletin #51  September 28, 2019

Bring a radio and an extra throttle if you have them. Yes-we’re still using radios.

You’re welcome to bring a friend(s). Just let me know so I can have a job assigned for them and have enough vitals.

What’s New:

  • Added more trees around the Allegheny bridge into Wooster, Ohio.

  • New double-deck staging area at Gallitzin, PA nearly complete

  • Added an AT&SF TOFC train

  • Finished weighting the long hopper freight cars

  • Revamped dispatcher’s board and ran new updated TICs

  • Updated all Chicago paperwork

  • Installed a 4’ LED light at Aurora

  • Installed the last industrial building at the Brighton Park industrial area

  • Installed the parking lot at the Ft Wayne passenger station

  • Built, painted and installed the westbound signal bridge at Hobart, Indiana

  •

Standing Operating Orders:

Chicago yard jobs will be plugged-in; do not operate on radio.

Chicago is entirely Yard Limit: when you go through the wall, speed is restricted, and any collision will result in an immediate awarding of the Penn Central Award.

Keep up with your train. Walk ahead of it looking out for misaligned switches, obstructions, etc.

Come get me when you need to move your train on/off the Burlington elevator.

Use phones when practical.

I welcome your own locomotives except Penn Central or “Bankrupt Blue” Rock Island. However, prior era Rock Island (Before “Bankrupt Blue”) equipment is fine. Please come early enough to set your equipment up and have it tested before we run. Let me know what you’re bringing and I’ll see if I can accommodate it in with the regular operation.

 Speed Restrictions

  • Speed in yards is 10MPH.

  • Speed through all yard switches is 10MPH

  • Speed in Chicago is Restricted: “A speed that will permit stopping short of train, engine, obstruction or switch not properly lined and looking out for broken rail, but not exceeding 15 MPH.” (I know it’s 20 MPH now but this is 1967 when it was still 15MPH.

  • Speed on the Chicago Union Station Wye and into Union Station is 10MPH

  • Mainline speed outside of Chicago to Lowbridge on the Burlington is 60MPH. Lift Bridge is 10 MPH. From Highpoint to St. Paul speed is 40 MPH.

  • Mainline speed outside of Chicago on the Pennsylvania from the West Pullman to Ft. Wayne is 50MPH. From Ft. Wayne to Allegheny bridge is 40MPH.

  • Road crews are to check orders and determine slow order locations before turning a wheel.

Email me if you have a position listed below you especially want to work. I don’t know yet if I’ll run all the jobs as I need to get a count of operators first:

  • Dispatcher

  • Tower Operator

  • Ford Plant (A two-three hour, work at your own pace, job)

  • Extra Board

  • The Windy City Packet - Commuter Trains (slow-paced, repetitive job)

  • Ore trains

  • System Rambler (A three-hour, work at your own pace, job w/switching)

  • Chicago yard switching job or transfer job (if available, as these are regularly assigned jobs))

  • Brighton Park switching job(challenging switching that lasts all three hours)NEW

  • Transcontinental mainline trains

NOTE: Positions are assigned by seniority. If two people want the same position, I will give it to the person who holds seniority – that is, attends regularly.
